“I was encouraged to come to Samdhana-Karana Yoga by my step-daughter, who is a professional dancer, and I love it. The teachers are welcoming and have a wonderful flow to their classes, you no sooner start and then it is time to cool down and you feel great! Would recommend it to one and all.” – Betty Ann Garside (66 years young)
“Samdhana-Karana Yoga is truly a community that fully practices the three tiers of the yogic discipline: physical positions, breathing and meditation. But also adds more: it is a community with heart and warmth for friends, old and new.” – Jenah Garrett
“I love going to Samdhana-Karana Yoga in Tacoma because the staff is so warm, friendly and totally understanding of how hectic our lives can and are, on a moment to moment basis.
I come in tired, cranky with kinks seemingly everywhere. I leave the building relaxed, feeling like a human again and the kinks are, if not totally gone, they are by the next day. Even unemployed, I found the cost very reasonable AND what a great preventive medicine it is. Keeping us healthy, we need you so badly!”
With much admiration and respectfully submitted by, – Marlene Motola, RN, BSN, UWT Master in Nursing graduate student

I truly feel very welcomed and peaceful while practicing there.” – Kristie Cummins

Classes have greatly helped me reduce unnecessary stress in my life. I would recommend this studio to anyone interested in Yoga.” – Jon Spencer
A Yogi’s Perspective – Emily Moody
A non-profit Yoga studio? In Tacoma?? Now, that might just be the best idea I’ve ever heard. I remember exactly where I was when I heard about this amazing idea – Art on the Ave in the summer of 2010. I remember being skeptical and questioning whether it would actually become a reality. I was so pleased on September 15th when they finally opened their doors.
I think my favorite thing about Samdhana-Karana Yoga is the fact they strive to make yoga accessible to EVERYONE regardless of incomes or ability. The two are equally important. For the first time since I started practicing Yoga five years ago, I actually feel comfortable asking people to come to Yoga with me. Before, the financial burden that was included with a Yoga experience in Tacoma preventing me from inviting friends or family. I just couldn’t ask them to drop $15 on a class they might not even enjoy. Samdhana-Karana Yoga prices are so reasonable that I am constantly, without a second thought, asking people to come to practice with me.
Another reason that I feel so comfortable inviting people to Samdhana-Karana Yoga is because of their other stated goal of making Yoga accessible to all abilities. I think one of the biggest barriers to the spread of Yoga is the preconceived notion that you have to already be fit and flexible to practice. Everybody at Samdhana-Karana Yoga strives to show that Yoga is for everybody. They do this through a variety of ways, specifically giving multiple modifications for every pose. There is NEVER even a hint of pretentiousness when practicing at Samdhana- Karana Yoga. Samdhana-Karana Yoga is truly a gift to Tacoma!
“It’s worth it to practice in a place where yoga is given more power than just "fitness." At Samdhana-Karana Yoga, there is no judgment, no stigma, and for the first time in my years of yoga, I feel I can truly keep my practice on my mat.
It’s a whole different formula, one that honors mind, body, and spirit. When I practice at Samdhana-Karana , I can finally hear and trust what my mind is telling me, what my body is capable of, and what my spirit needs to heal - a gift at any cost, and a steal at seven bucks!”
